Evelyn Pearl Anderson
Growing up on a Fleming County, KY, farm, E. Pearl had only one dream – “being a nurse.” But her development as a potential artist was already beginning. She was influenced by the colors of nature that surrounded her on the farm and by working with her mother on dress design and sewing projects. When she reached high school, E. Pearl found herself the one schoolmates called on to design posters for events. Still she never thought of herself as an artist.
E. Pearl fulfilled her dream and became an RN in 1961. A nursing career, marriage to her husband, Carlos, and raising a family kept her busy. But when she returned to school at Campbellsville College, she found herself wondering about art – “could I do it?” So she majored in social work but minored in art. Shortly after graduation she worked in acrylics and oils. She gained some recognition but other responsibilities and interests took over – church, career and family. She laid her paint brushes down for 30 years.
In 2009 a dream took hold – being a watercolor artist. E. Pearl took workshops, studied books and CDs and got a bit of private instruction. Watercolor painting began to flow from her. She has sold prints and numerous note cards made from her original water color paintings.
“I delight ibn capturing a bit of the beauty that God surrounds us with every day whether it is a flower, a sunset, water falling or an open field with cattle grazing,” E. Pearl says, “It’s a blessing to learn one’s gift after seventy years of age.”
E. Pearl and Carlos live in a Richmond, KY, retirement community after 20 years in Laurel County. They enjoy their three children, spouses and five grandchildren.
